17th Century Oak Coffer

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Holmes Antiques

A very good 17th Century Oak Coffer of lovely colour, in super original condition retaining the original ring hinges. The well carved front features tulips and leaf work to the panels and uprights, the top rail with Lunette pattern, the legs and bottom rail with scratch moulding. Nice to see also the original shaped brackets to the base still in place adjoining the bottom rail and leg. The inside is wonderfully clean and untouched just as we like to see. Interesting also to note the back legs are cut out at the back to allow the lid to open, this seems to be a feature of some coffers of this early period.
