Victorian Engraved Decanter C1880

Description

Technical Description

A beautiful Victorian engraved decanter dating to c1870. It has its original facet cut stopper. The neck and body have been engraved a continuous fruiting vine which spiral down the neck and around the body. Polished pontil.

Date & Origin

England, c1880. Period of Victorian

Condition

Excellent. No chips cracks or restoration, clean and clear.

Height: 27cm (included stopper)

Diameter: 13.5cm.

Historical Relevance

Hand blown around the time the Carnegie Hall opens at 881 Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Carnegie Hall is named after Andrew Carnegie (a Scotsman) who paid for its construction. Its main purpose was for use as a performance venue for classical music.
