Edwardian inlaid mahogany revolving bookcase

This Edwardian inlaid mahogany revolving bookcase was made and retailed by Maple & Co Tottenham Court Road London circa 1900.

Maple & co had large showrooms in London, Paris, and Buenos Aires. All 3 of these great cities were very affluent and so they had many wealthy clients vying to buy their top-quality pieces.

As they sold top of the range items where the quality was of the essence the revolving mechanism ran smoothly and were set on cast iron bases, this made them stable whereas the mass-produced examples would lean if the books stored were not placed evenly.

The top has a banding of satinwood inset around the edge and the central circular fan design at the centre.

The slatted sides to keep the books in place are secured by brass headed nails.

The bookcase revolves with a gentle push and allows you to select a book easily.

Maple & co revolving bookcases are wonderful items of furniture that are not only very attractive but also serve as useful pieces for displaying books.

Imagine this in your drawing room and the pleasure you will get from owning such a piece.

50cms square 19 1/2ins

87cms high 34 1/4ins

All measurements are as accurate as possible.
