Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of large Neo-Classical wall lights dates from the 1900 period and is made from heavy cast brass with a warm golden brass finish. Each light fitting has two sconces and incorporates architectural backplates with ornate floral carving at the top and bottom, curved twin scroll arms embellished with acanthus leaf motifs, and cream-coloured candle sleeves holding upright candle-bulb fittings with visible electrical wiring. The dimensions measure 43 cm high, 31 cm wide, and 31 cm deep. These working wall lights suit placement on narrow wall spaces in a living room, hallway, or dining room where they require connection to a domestic electrical supply. The traditional design brings a grand Regency aesthetic to interior schemes, providing symmetrical accent lighting when mounted on either side of a fireplace, mirror, or doorway.

FAQs

Neoclassical lighting draws inspiration from classical antiquity, featuring symmetrical proportions, architectural backplates, and ornamental details such as acanthus leaves, classical urns, and foliate scrolls.

Period wall lights were typically cast in solid brass or bronze, often finished with detailed chasing, hand polishing, or natural surface patination, complemented by faux candle sleeves.

Authentic pieces usually exhibit substantial weight from solid cast metal construction, precise hand-chased detailing around decorative motifs, and natural surface wear or oxidisation in unpolished recesses.

Mount them in pairs flanking a central focal point, such as an overmantel mirror or large artwork, to introduce architectural balance, warm metal tones, and ambient lighting.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes, as these can remove historic patination and protective lacquer coats.
