Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A silver gilt sugar basket is a small table vessel crafted from sterling silver finished with a thin layer of gold gilding, designed to hold lump sugar or sweetmeats during tea or dessert services in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

These vessels were crafted using cast and pierced sterling silver frames decorated with scrollwork or foliage, coated in gold leaf or electroplated gold, and fitted with a removable blown-glass liner to protect the metal from acidic contents.

Authentic British pieces feature full hallmark stamps on the silver rim or foot, including the makers mark, lion passant for sterling quality, assay office mark, and date letter, alongside natural surface wear on high-relief areas.

Display the basket on a sideboard, drinks trolley, or dining table as a standalone decorative centrepiece, or utilise it on a dressing table to store small items of jewellery.

Wash the glass liner separately in warm water with mild soap, and gently clean the silver-gilt exterior using a soft cotton cloth, avoiding abrasive silver polishes that can remove the gold layer.
