Victorian Etruscan Revival Paste Garnet Gilt Earrings and Brooch

A sumptuous set of gilt metal earrings and brooch/pendant in High Victorian Etruscan Revival style. Full of incredible detail and set with gleaming foiled pinkish-purple stones which are untested but assumed to be imitation almandine garnets.

Around 1880 many gold treasures dating back to the ancient Etruscan era (700-300 BC) were being discovered in Italian tombs, leading to the emergence of the Etruscan Revival as Victorian jewellers sought to recreate the style. Craftsmen employed considerable skill to make finely detailed pieces using multiple gold working techniques such as granulation, cannetille and filigree and typically employing high-carat gold and semi-precious stones.

• Condition: Both the earrings and the brooch are in excellent antique condition with normal surface wear, most visible on the reverse of the brooch.

• Fixing: The brooch fastens with a typical 19th century C clasp and could easily be worn as a pendant by threading a chain through the loop top front. The ear wires are supplied with tiny silicone "keepers" to pop on the end for security.

• Era: Victorian.

• Size: The earrings measure approximately 3.8cm total drop x 1.8cm wide. The brooch is 3.6cm not including the pin.

• Weight: The earrings weigh 8.3g combined, the brooch 16.5g.
