Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The silver salver originated as a shallow tray used for presenting items such as letters, cups, or glasses to guests. By the 18th and 19th centuries, it became a standard piece of formal dining and hospitality silver, often presented as a testimonial or commemorative gift.

Authentic period salvers are typically manufactured from sterling silver, indicated by standard hallmarks for purity. They were traditionally cast or hammered from sheet silver, often featuring hand-chased borders, applied wire rims, and small supporting feet.

Authenticity is verified through official assay office hallmarks stamped into the metal, which include a standard mark for silver purity, a town mark (such as the three sheaves for Chester), a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture, and a makers mark.

An antique silver salver can be integrated into modern schemes by using it as a reflective surface on a coffee table to group smaller decorative objects, or by mounting it securely on a wall as metallic wall art to create textural contrast.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a specialized, non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to preserve the patina and details of the engraving. It should be stored in a dry environment away from direct sunlight and atmospheric pollutants to prevent excessive tarnish.
