Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1930 Chinoiserie standard lamp is made from wood with a black lacquered and japanned finish, accented with hand-painted gold and red floral motifs and gilt decoration. The piece has a tapering turned column and a circular base resting on shaped feet, with a brass fitting and finial at the top. The overall dimensions measure 165 cm in height by 41 cm in width and depth. In a contemporary home, this standard lamp suits placement at the end of a sofa or in a quiet corner of a sitting room. The dark surface and painted botanical details add a decorative accent to traditional and country house interior schemes.

FAQs

A Chinoiserie standard lamp is a tall, freestanding light fixture decorated with European interpretations of East Asian artistic styles, which became popular during the eighteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These lamps typically feature turned wood bases finished with hand-applied lacquer, gilt accents, and painted floral or scenic motifs, topped with brass light fitments.

Authentic pieces display hand-painted brushwork with minor natural variation, raised detail beneath gilt elements, and fine surface wear or craquelure consistent with age.

Position the standard lamp alongside an accent chair or sofa to create a layered lighting arrangement that introduces texture and traditional detail to contemporary spaces.

Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoid liquid cleaners or polish, and position the fixture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent drying or cracking.
