Georgian caddy spoons emerged in the late 18th century alongside the increasing popularity and importation of tea, specifically designed to measure loose tea leaves from a caddy into a teapot.

They were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as stamping, casting, and hand engraving, frequently featuring distinctive shell-shaped bowls and bright-cut handles.

Authentic pieces are identified by examining the hallmarks, which typically include a makers mark, a lion passant indicating sterling standard, a city mark, and a date letter corresponding to the Georgian period.

Antique silver spoons can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, mounted in shadow boxes, or styled on sideboards alongside other silver collectibles to add historical texture to a room.

Preservation involves storing pieces in tarnish-resistant cloth and cleaning them infrequently using non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth to protect the underlying metal and fine engravings.
