This late nineteenth-century French Louis XVI style table lamp stands 77 cm high, 35 cm wide, and 28 cm deep, designed for use on a sideboard top. The composition consists of a cobalt blue porcelain vase mounted with gilded ormolu, featuring two putti figures perched atop scrolling foliate handles. Acanthus leaf mounts adorn the collar around the neck, while palm leaves support the base of the vessel above a square plinth base. A cream-coloured pleated fabric shade tops the assembly, diffusing light downwards over the gilded metalwork and rich blue glaze. The piece functions effectively as a decorative accent and functional lighting fixture in traditional reception rooms, studies, or grand hallways.

Louis XVI style porcelain vase lamps typically feature classical symmetry, cobalt blue or painted porcelain bodies, and elaborate gilt bronze ormolu mounts inspired by Greco-Roman antiquity.

These lamps combine high-fired hard-paste or soft-paste porcelain with cast gilt bronze ormolu mounts and are frequently fitted with pleated fabric shades.

Authentic pieces exhibit detailed chasing on the gilt bronze, heavy cast weight, uniform glazed porcelain finishes, and appropriate maker marks or interlaced ciphers on the underside.

Position the lamp on a dark wood sideboard or console table to establish a focal point, pairing it with neutral textiles to balance the cobalt blue and gold tones.

Dust the porcelain and metalwork using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical cleansers or water on the ormolu to preserve the original gilding.
