These Edwardian Art Nouveau table mirrors take the form of a pair of dark brown patinated spelter female figures standing upon celestial-themed bases and holding circular glass mirrors above their heads. The figures wear draped robes, while the bases incorporate winged celestial globes and crescent moon motifs, resting upon turned wooden plinths featuring traditional circular mouldings. The overall colour scheme is dominated by the dark brown patina of the metalwork against the reflective surfaces of the modern replacement mirrors. Each piece measures 56.5 cm high, 11 cm wide, and 11 cm deep overall, with a height of 45 cm excluding the mirrors. In a contemporary home, this pair works well displayed upon a mantelpiece, sideboard top, or side table to add a striking decorative accent to a room. The design also suits placement on a dressing table or vanity surface within a bedroom setting. The substantial figures and contrasting circular mirror plates bring both sculptural presence and practical reflection to interior spaces, blending classical figural themes with decorative metalwork styling.

Originating in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Art Nouveau figural mirrors feature natural curves, fluid lines, and classical allegorical or feminine forms. Spelter, a zinc-based alloy, was frequently employed during this era to create intricate sculpture-inspired decorative items at an accessible weight and cost.

These mirrors were cast using spelter metal, an alloy of zinc often bronzed or patinated to mimic cast bronze. The cast metal frames house silvered circular glass mirror plates set upon solid weighted bases.

Authentic period pieces display fine details in the drapery and facial features, along with natural surface oxidisation or patina. Spelter items are typically lighter than solid bronze and may show white zinc oxidation inside hollow cast areas.

Position the pair symmetrically on a dining room sideboard or a fireplace mantelpiece to flank a central artwork. They also serve as striking decorative accent pieces on a dressing table or library desk.

Clean the metal base gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth to avoid removing the original painted or patinated surface coating. Apply a light coat of clear microcrystalline wax periodically to protect the metal finish from moisture and tarnish.
