This 19th-century Victorian serveware piece is an Elkington silver-plate and ebony-handled bread trident fork measuring 24.5 cm high by 5 cm wide. The design presents silver and black tones, combining three sharp tines, scrolled shoulders, a black ebony handle, and a chased silver ferrule at the collar and end cap. Crisp hallmarks of 'E&Co,' 'ELKINGTON,' and the letter 'S' appear on the stem. Ideal for everyday dining table use, this fork serves sliced bread or pastries from a sideboard top during meals or afternoon tea. Its balanced construction provides a practical utensil for hosting guests or daily family dining within a traditional or gothic interior setting.

Designed during the nineteenth century, a Victorian bread fork is a specialised serving utensil featuring three broad tines used to serve sliced bread at formal dining tables.

These utensils typically combine silver or electroplated nickel silver heads with turned or carved handles made from ebony, mother-of-pearl, bone, or horn.

Authentic pieces feature stamped hallmarks or makers marks, often including the Elkington initials, shield emblem, date letters, and electroplating numerical codes near the shank.

An antique bread fork can be styled flat within a glass display tray on a sideboard, presented on an oak bread board, or framed inside a shadow box wall display.

Clean the silver prongs using a dry or slightly damp silver polishing cloth, avoiding full submersion in water to protect the organic wooden handle from swelling or cracking.
