Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Celestial imagery, particularly starbursts and crescents, became prominent in fine jewellery during the late Victorian era. These designs featured diamonds or seed pearls radiant from a central gemstone set into gold or silver, symbolizing guidance, spirit, and outer space discoveries of the nineteenth century.

Victorian pendant brooches were typically fabricated in 15ct or 18ct yellow gold, occasionally silver-topped for diamond settings. Natural gemstones such as sapphires, rubies, and old cut diamonds were commonly incorporated alongside hand-engraved floral and leaf motifs.

Authentic items display hand-engraved details, hand-set gemstones in bezel or grain settings, and characteristic period fastenings such as elongated brooch pins or collapsible pendant bails. Metal purity marks may be present, though unhallmarked gold tested to period standards is also common.

A dual-purpose piece can be worn suspended from a heavy gold chain or velvet ribbon as a focal necklace. Alternatively, utilizing the brooch pin mechanism allows attachment to coat lapels, scarves, or tailored blazers.

Clean using a soft dry microfibre cloth to polish the gold surface without disturbing micro-engravings. Avoid immersion in liquid or ultrasonic cleaners, as antique gem settings may feature foil backing or closed settings susceptible to moisture damage.
