The Celtic Revival movement gained immense popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, driven by a renewed interest in ancient Celtic art, mythology, and heritage. Craftsmen drew inspiration from ancient stone crosses and manuscripts to create distinctive silver and stone-set ornaments.

Traditional Scottish and Celtic revival pieces are typically crafted from sterling silver and set with native hardstones such as jasper, bloodstone, agate, and cairngorm quartz. Artisans utilised hand-engraving and bezel settings to showcase the natural striations of the stones.

Authentic pieces from the late 19th and early 20th centuries often feature period-appropriate fastenings such as a C-clasp or tubular hinge, alongside traditional hallmarks or maker marks stamped into the silver. The stones are usually hand-cut and fitted into individual bezels rather than glued.

Antique brooches offer a versatile styling opportunity, functioning well when pinned to modern lapels, scarves, velvet hats, or displayed as miniature works of art within a shadow box frame on a gallery wall.

Antique silver should be stored in a dry environment away from direct sunlight, ideally in an anti-tarnish pouch. Cleaning should be done gently with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage natural stones and delicate engraving.
