This is an excellent piece of solid sterling silver craftsmanship by the great Paul Storr.It is clearly hallmarked for London 1824 and each separate piece carries a full set of those hallmarks. The circular base has a gadrooned border and a central baluster socket with gadrooned detachable nozzle. The loop handle supports the tapering extinguisher, complete with beautiful finial. The base, nozzle and extinguisher are each engraved with an unusual crest.Paul Storr (28 October 1770 – 18 March 1844 ) was one of the most talented silversmiths of the late Georgian period. Today his legacy of exceptionally well crafted silver can be found worldwide in museums and private collections. Chambersticks first made an appearance in the 17th century.
