George II Yew Veneered Featherbanded Kneehole Desk

An unusual George II crossbanded and featherbanded yew-wood veneered kneehole desk, dating from the second quarter of the 18th century. The desk stands on bracket feet and has a quarter veneered top with moulded edge, and an arrangement of drawers beneath with a central recessed cupboard.
 
An interesting and beautifully made piece of 18th century furniture, which would work as a dressing table as well as a desk. It has a full width top drawer with three narrower drawers at each side, and a central apron drawer with a recessed cupboard below. The cupboard door has a lozenge shape depicted in featherbanding with the centre quarter veneered, and a further line of featherbanding around the perimeter. The drawer fronts have an outer line of stringing, followed by an area of cross banding, with an internal line of feather banding.
