Technical Description
 
An excellent 19th century Amethyst serving bottle dating to c1850. It has a string rim and is cylindrical in shape. Polished pontil.

England, c1850. Period of Victoria.
 
Condition
 
Excellent, age-related wear as shown. No chips, cracks, or restoration, clean and clear.

Height: 28.5cm, Diameter: 9cm.
 
Historical Context
 
Benjamin Henry perfects the Henry rifle which was manufactured by the New Haven Arms Company, and used in considerable numbers by certain Union army units in the American Civil War. Confederates called the Henry ''that damned Yankee rifle that they load on Sunday and shoot all week!''
