Technical Description

An 18th century plain stem ale glass dating to c1750. It has round funnel bowl well engraved with hops and barley. Sits on a plain stem above a conical foot.

Being an ale glass, you would think that engraved hops and barley would be quiet common, however its actually quiet rare at around 1:10 ratio on this form.

A really nice example.

Date & Origin

England, c1750. Period of George II.

Condition

Excellent, age-related wear as shown. No chips, cracks or retoration.

Height: 17.5cm Bowl Diameter: 5.8cm Foot Diameter: 7.3cm.

Historical Context

In 1742, Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville, the lawyer and politician who became the last person to be impeached in the United Kingdom.
