Antique Silver Novelty Miniature Warming Pan

1900 - 1920
Description

This is an interesting piece, with more than one usage. A solid sterling silver miniature warming pan. It could be a pot pourri holder or maybe a table snuff box? Or anything really!

It is clearly hallmarked on the side for Birmingham 1908, with the maker's mark for Levi & Salaman. The elegant turned and ebonised handle is well attached and the star design (made from stars) is crisp on the lid. The lid opens to reveal excellent gilding inside. There is a small amount of play on the hinge. The silver is in excellent condition.

Length: 13cm

Width: 5cm

Weight: 26g

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Novelty miniature silver items gained popularity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as decorative cabinet curiosities, dollhouse accessories, or functional trinket boxes mimicking full-sized household objects like bed warming pans.

These pieces are typically crafted from sterling or continental silver, featuring hand-pierced or repousse lids and turned hardwood or ebony handles attached via a fitted silver socket.

Authentic examples feature maker marks or hallmarks stamped onto the silver body or rim indicating the assay office and silver standard, alongside precise hand-finished joins near the handle base.

Display small silver novelties inside a glass-topped display cabinet, arranged on a brass tray within a bookshelf, or alongside a collection of small metalwork curios.

Gently polish the silver sections using a soft cotton cloth and silver polish, avoiding contact with the wooden handle to prevent timber discolouration or moisture damage.
