Sovereign cases were popular pocket accessories during the 19th and early 20th centuries, designed to securely carry gold sovereign and half-sovereign coins for everyday transactions.

These cases were typically crafted from sterling silver or gold, often featuring internal spring mechanisms to hold coins firmly in place alongside decorative engraving or plain polished finishes.

Authenticity is verified by checking for British hallmarks, including the makers mark, standard mark indicating sterling silver, city assay office mark such as the anchor for Birmingham, and a date letter.

These small collectibles are often showcased in glass-topped display cabinets, within shadow boxes, or on a desk as part of a curated display of historical curiosities.

Silver items should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain the patina, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage historical finishes.
