Georgian Deceptive Heavy Baluster Dram Or Toastmaster’s Glass

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The World is Made of Glass Ltd.

This is a Georgian deceptive heavy baluster dram or toastmaster’s glass dating from the early 18th century, c1720.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot commensurate with 250+ years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the bottom of the foot.

The glass has a funnel-shaped bowl measuring 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl thickens as it descends towards the stem to reduce the amount of liquor it contained. The bowl sits on a heavy inverted baluster with a large air tear in the knop and a conical, folded foot that measures 6.1 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter. The glass is 11.3 cm (4.5 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a small dark inclusion in the metal of the bowl dating from manufacture.

It is made from English lead metal. It weighs 232 g. (~ 8 1/4 oz.)....
