A superb 18th century Jacobite Sympathy engraved glass decanter dating to 1780. It has a period lozenge stopper, which fits very well amd is the correct colour. The decanter has a large detailed Carnation with closed buds and foliage. Polished pontil. A very fine example.

Excellent, age-related wear as shown. No chips, cracks or restoration, clean and clear.

Historical Context
Jacobites and their love of carnations are well documented.
It shows her large red and white carnation above her right breast with further carnations in her hair. This is the very first example we have had which 'swaps' the rose and two buds for the carnation and two buds.
