FAQs

Fire screens gained popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries as domestic hearths became central features of the home, primarily designed to protect occupants from excessive radiant heat and flying sparks.

Authentic period fire guards typically feature cast or stamped brass frames, fine wire mesh panels, and heavy supportive feet, often incorporating detailed neoclassical or rococo motifs.

Authentic pieces often exhibit hand-finishing, natural tarnish patterns, heavy gauge brass components, and traditional construction methods such as riveted or screwed joints rather than modern welds.

Placed in front of an unused or active fireplace, it acts as a sculptural focal point, adding metallic warmth and textural contrast to contemporary living spaces.

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical abrasives or commercial metal polishes that can strip the natural patina accumulated over decades.
