This Edwardian fire screen serves as a decorative accessory for a fireplace hearth, combining practical function with period design. The piece consists of a polished gold-coloured brass frame enclosing an aged mirrored glass panel with softly rounded upper corners. A finely etched starburst motif decorates the centre of the mirror surface. The brass framework includes a shaped carrying handle and scrolling crest at the top, along with four decorative splayed feet with curved detailing at the base. Measuring 76 cm high, 46 cm wide, and 18 cm deep, the screen fits comfortably in front of a hearth to shield a room from residual warmth or unlit grates when the fireplace is not in use. The traditional English country house aesthetic makes it suitable for placement in a formal living room, study, or drawing room alongside period furniture and hearth accessories.

Mirrored fire screens emerged during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, designed to obscure unlit fireplace grates during summer months while reflecting natural light back into the room.

These screens are typically constructed using cast or drawn brass frames surrounding heavy bevelled or wheel-cut plate glass mirror panels.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy cast brass components, natural oxidisation in unpolished crevices, and hand-cut or engraved glass decorative motifs.

Position the screen on a fireplace hearth to reflect ambient light into the living space, or place it inside an empty alcove to create depth.

Clean the glass panel with a soft microfiber cloth and non-abrasive glass cleaner, avoiding chemical liquid polishes on aged brass frames to preserve the natural patina.
