Description

This well-detailed PAIR OF ELKINGTON & Co SILVER PLATED CANDLESTICKS bear the date marks for 1857/58 and the model number 2779 and 2979.

The circular bases are decorated with three stylised OWLS with wings, in the form of acanthus leaves, outspread. There are various floral motifs which appear to include thistles and roses. The three feline heads, halfway up the column, would appear to be stylised LEOPARDS.

There is some minor wear to the plate.

An interesting overall design which seems to span many of the Victorian styles - Gothic, Renaissance Revival and Arts & Crafts.
