Naive Engraved Glass Bees Wing Racehorse C1840

19th century
Description

This Moulded Glass Tumbler, dating from circa 1840, is naively engraved with a Horse and Jockey and entitled Bees Wing. The reverse is engraved with the name C. Scott Wensley.

Bees Wing (1833-1854) was a Thoroughbred Racehorse from the North of my England once hailed as the greatest mare in Britain of all time.. Wensley presumably refers to the small village of this name in North Yorkshire.

There are some small nicks to the footrim.

Height: 4 inches (10 cm)

The first two photographs are taken with a sheet of black paper inside.
