FAQs

Originating in France during the early 18th century, the Rococo movement favoured asymmetry, elaborate curves, and naturalistic motifs such as shells, scrolls, and foliage, which were frequently translated into gilded bronze and brass decorative objects.

Period wall-lights were traditionally crafted using cast brass, bronze, or ormolu, often utilizing lost-wax casting methods followed by hand-chasing to refine intricate surface details and ornamental features.

Authenticity is typically assessed by examining the casting quality, fastener types such as hand-threaded screws, natural patination and oxidisation patterns, and signs of historical wear rather than machine-tooled uniformity.

These pieces can be mounted flanking a fireplace, mirror, or doorway to introduce architectural depth and warm metallic accents, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary spatial aesthetics.

Brass fixtures should be cleaned using a soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove dust. Abrasive cleaners and chemical polishes ought to be avoided to preserve the historic patina and surface finish.
