A travelling apple corer is a pocket-sized dining accessory featuring a tubular blade that screws into a protective handle, designed for personal use during travel or dining out in the late 18th and 19th centuries.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, often featuring hollow or solid silver handles, and occasionally combined with mother-of-pearl or steel blades for the cutting edge.

Authentic pieces are identified by hallmarks stamped directly onto the metal, typically including the makers mark, lion passant for sterling silver, a town mark, and a date letter corresponding to the active period of the silversmith.

These small collectable items are traditionally displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, on small silver display trays, or integrated into a curated tablescape arrangement.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized silver cloth to preserve the natural patina and avoid damaging historical hallmarks, avoiding harsh chemical dips.
