This seventeenth-century Jacobean chest of drawers originates from the period in dark brown oak with a warm colour, decorative geometric mouldings, and dark fruitwood veneered detail. The piece is of two-piece construction comprising four long drawers with oak-lined interiors, each fitted with brass star drop handles and central keyhole escutcheons with early locks. The drawer fronts display mitred panels creating a geometric design across the facade, while the base stands on replaced bun feet. The timber exhibits a natural patina accumulated through age. The chest measures 100 cm high, 99 cm wide, and 58 cm deep. Placed in a traditional study, library, or bedroom, this heavy storage item accommodates folded clothing, linen, or documents while serving as a functional surface for lamps or decorative objects.

Jacobean furniture, originating in 17th-century Britain, is characterized by sturdy oak construction, geometric drawer mouldings, turned balusters, and robust joinery.

These chests typically feature solid English oak with peg-and-tenon joinery, side-runner drawers, hand-forged nails, and applied geometric moulding.

Authentic pieces display hand-sawn wood marks, uneven wear around handles, original drawer runners mounted on the sides rather than the bottom, and dark natural age oxidisation.

Position the chest against neutral contemporary walls to highlight the geometric drawer panels, complementing the dark wood with minimalist brass or ceramics.

Dust regularly with a soft cloth, apply a beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish, and maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent wood shrinkage.
