Edwardian silver salvers date from the reign of King Edward VII (1901 to 1910), a period characterised by ornate craftsmanship, reviving classical motifs and intricate floral or scroll engraving for formal domestic hospitality.

These items are crafted from solid sterling silver, typically marked with standard British hallmarker stamps indicating the purity, assay office, and date, and shaped using traditional hand-raising, casting, and chasing techniques.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmark stampings, maker marks, weight, patination, and the characteristic hand-chased surface decoration typical of early twentieth-century silversmithing.

A polished silver salver can be used on a sideboard or coffee table to corral smaller decorative items, or displayed upright on a plate stand to reflect light and add metallic contrast to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires storing items in tarnish-resistant cloth, avoiding harsh abrasive cleaners, and using specialist non-abrasive silver polishes sparingly to maintain the original surface detail and hallmarks.
