This Georgian solid sterling silver apple corer dates from the reign of George III with the blade hallmarked for London 1797 by makers Thomas Phipps and Edward Robinson. The piece combines a polished curved silver scoop with visible British hallmarks, a turned green ferrule, and a tapered dark green stained bone handle finished with a rounded finial. Two visible cracks run along the handle alongside slight movement in the wood, while multiple decorative reeded mouldings encircle the silver collar joining the blade and handle. The item measures 13.5 cm in length. In a contemporary home, this tactile antique silverware serves as a decorative display piece on a sideboard top, bringing traditional English country house character to a dining room or kitchen setting. It provides a historical talking point for collectors of Georgian silver, integrating easily into existing antique displays or collections of period utensils.

An antique silver apple corer is a specialised dining implement designed during the 18th and 19th centuries for preparing and eating fresh fruit at the table. These tools were popular in Georgian dining settings where fruit consumption was a refined social ritual.

Georgian apple corers were usually crafted with sterling silver scoops or blades, often featuring silver ferrules joined to handles made of carved bone, ivory, mother-of-pearl, or wood. Many handles were dyed green using copper salts, a distinctive aesthetic choice of the late 18th century.

Authentic pieces carry British hallmark stamps directly on the silver scoop, indicating the purity mark, maker mark, location mark, and date letter. Genuine Georgian silver corers display hand-raised metalwork, characteristic joinery at the ferrule, and subtle signs of age appropriate to 18th- or early 19th-century manufacturing techniques.

This compact collectable piece can be displayed on a sideboard top inside a glazed display cabinet or arranged alongside other vintage kitchenalia on open shelving. Its distinct green handle and polished silver finish add historical texture to modern dining rooms or butler pantries.

Clean silver sections gently using a soft microfibre cloth and a specialised silver polish, avoiding contact between polish and the stained handle. Store the item in a low-humidity environment to prevent tarnishing, and never submerge organic handles in water.
