This antique Persian Veramin carpet from 1920 is hand-knotted from wool and cotton, presented in a terracotta and navy colour palette. The piece displays a soft red ground decorated with zoomorphic figures, floral palmettes, and a compound border pattern, showing an even low pile throughout. The ends and sides are secured, and the rug has been hand washed to produce a floor-ready finish suitable for traditional home settings. Measuring 315 cm high, 217 cm wide, and 1 cm deep, this large rectangular textile functions well as a foundational floor covering in a principal living room, study, or hallway. The intricate traditional motifs and rich natural dyes complement classic architectural spaces and country house interiors.

FAQs

Veramin rugs originate from the city of Varamin in north-central Iran, historically renowned for fine hand-knotted weaving using wool on a cotton foundation, often featuring floral palmettes or intricate zoomorphic and repeating field patterns.

Traditional Veramin carpets are woven using natural hand-spun wool pile knotted onto a cotton warp and weft, utilising plant-based dyes to create rich colours such as terracotta, navy, and cream.

Authenticity can be identified by inspecting the reverse side for slight irregularities in hand-knotted construction, natural colour variations from vegetable dyes, soft flexible backing, and warp threads forming natural fringes.

A terracotta or red Persian carpet grounds a living space by adding structural warmth, pairing effectively with neutral linen upholstery, dark timber furniture, or contemporary minimalist decor to create visual balance.

Vacuum regularly without a rotating beater bar, rotate the carpet annually to distribute foot traffic, blot spills immediately with a dry cloth, and engage a professional textile restorer for periodic deep cleaning.
