This Persian Bijar wool carpet dates from 1880 and measures 271 cm high, 148 cm wide, 1 cm deep. The hand-knotted textile displays a repeating floral lattice pattern in blue, white, black and pink across a glowing madder red field. A mustard yellow border frames the central design with alternating rosette motifs and blue and green leaf details, enclosed by thin blue inner and outer guard bands. Natural dyes provide a rich palette across the even wool pile, which shows slight wear commensurate with its age and an all-wool foundation with fringed ends. Secured sides and a heavy structure complete the piece, which suits placement as a floor covering in a living room, hallway or study within an English Country House interior.
