Senneh rugs are among the finest and most coveted Persian rugs of the 19th century. This fine silk-warped example is a joy to both look at and to handle. The wool is soft and velvety, while silk foundation gives the rug an additional fineness which enables one to fold it like a textile. Amazing! The classic Heratic design drawn in concentric hexagons of different colours is well-known. Here it is intricately but crisply drawn with great finesse. Outstanding is the honey yellow background colour of the field. Note the jewel-like sapphire spandrels and the lovely palmette border which frames the composition perfectly. The colours are so subtle and harmonious that one can image this fine Persian rug enhancing many decorative settings.
