Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early eighteenth-century Georgian walnut bureau presents a rich warm brown timber with burr walnut veneers across its surfaces. The slant-front writing flap opens to reveal a fitted interior containing pigeonholes, small drawers, and a central cupboard door flanked by turned colonnettes. Below the drop-down writing surface sit three graduated drawers, each furnished with brass drop handles and brass keyhole escutcheons. The piece stands elevated on bracket feet, displaying smooth panelled sides and exposed grain patterns. Measuring 96.5 cm high, 83.8 cm wide, and 50.8 cm deep, the dimensions provide a compact footprint suitable for practical writing tasks. In a modern home, this traditional writing desk functions ideally as a compact workstation in a study, home office, or living room. The compact configuration allows writers to organise correspondence and paperwork while keeping desktop clutter concealed behind the fall-front flap when not in use.

A slant-front walnut bureau is a traditional writing desk featuring a sloped hinged lid that opens downwards to form a flat writing surface, revealing an arrangement of internal compartments, small drawers, and pigeonholes above lower storage drawers.

Antique bureaux were traditionally constructed using solid timbers or timber frames decorated with figure-matched walnut or burr walnut veneers, brass drop handles, iron locks, and secondary woods such as pine or oak for drawer linings.

Authentic period walnut bureaux feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary drawer timbers, hand-cast brass hardware with original patination, and evidence of historical woodworking techniques on the rear backboards.

An antique walnut bureau functions as a compact workspace in a home office, living area, or bedroom, pairing warm timber tones with contemporary lighting and neutral paint palettes.

Burr walnut finishes should be preserved by dusting with a soft cloth, applying a high-grade beeswax polish occasionally along the wood grain, and avoiding direct heat sources or humid conditions.
