FAQs

Rococo Revival wall sconces originated in the mid-19th century as a resurgence of the 18th-century French Louis XV aesthetic. The style emphasizes fluid, asymmetrical curves, scrolling foliage, and shell-like motifs, which remained popular into the early 20th century for grand interior schemes.

Traditional Rococo wall lights are typically cast from heavy brass or bronze. The metal is chased by hand to refine the surface detailing before being finished with lacquer or left unvarnished to develop a natural patina over time.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy cast metal weight, crisp chasing along raised leaf designs, and natural dark oxidisation in the recessed crevices. Screws and mounting hardware usually show signs of age or historic electrical conversion.

Positioning a pair of ornate brass sconces on either side of a large modern mirror or fine art painting creates a framed focal point. They pair well with neutral plaster walls and minimalist furniture to balance rich ornamentation with contemporary clarity.

Dust the brass work regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a dry bristle brush to reach fine crevices. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes, as these can strip aged surface lacquers and remove historical patina.
