During the Edwardian period between 1901 and 1910, small table novelties crafted from turned ebony with sterling silver mounts became popular accessories for dining tables and sideboards.

These functional objects were typically turned from dense hardwoods such as ebony or rosewood and fitted with hallmarked sterling silver collars or rims for visual contrast and protection.

Authentic examples feature clear British hallmarks stamped on the silver rim indicating the silversmith, location, and date mark, accompanied by natural wood grain on the turned timber body.

Small turned timber pots can be repurposed on a desk, dressing table, or bathroom counter to store small everyday items such as cotton buds, paperclips, or matchsticks.

Dust the wood using a soft, dry cloth while avoiding water or wax build-up, and gently polish the silver collar with a specialized silver polishing cloth to prevent tarnish.
