This nineteenth-century Victorian country house daybed has a walnut surround and stands on bold bulbous turned legs with original brass spoke castors. The piece is upholstered in olive green velvet with deep button tufting on the raised backrest, and retains its original horsehair padding over a tight, firm frame. Scroll armrests complete the structure, incorporating hinged sides that allow the arms to open back for ease of use. Measuring 101.5 cm high, 162.5 cm wide, and 75 cm deep, this daybed makes a comfortable seating and lounging option in an English country house setting. The wood displays a warm brown tone with an original finish, complemented by the olive green fabric and small brass hardware details.

A daybed or chaise longue from the nineteenth century is an elongated seating piece designed for reclining during the day, popularised in Victorian country houses and drawing rooms.

These pieces were built with solid hardwood frames, such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, often upholstered in velvet or damask and fitted with brass castors.

Authentic pieces display traditional joinery, hand-carved frame elements, turned walnut legs, original brass castors, and period-appropriate deep button-tufting.

A Victorian daybed functions well placed beside a bay window, at the foot of a bed, or within a dedicated reading area to add historic texture to a room.

Vacuum velvet upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment, keep the piece away from direct sunlight to avoid fabric fading, and polish the walnut frame with natural beeswax.
