This Victorian helmet-shaped coal scuttle dates to 1880 and is made from brass and ebonised wood in a rich gold colour. The piece features a distinct helmet form with a sloped front, a turned ebonised wooden handle on a pivoting brass carrier, and an original integral shovel resting at the back. Raised relief embossing covers the front lid panel with intricate motifs, complemented by a raised circular pedestal base and a Lozenge stamp dated 15th August 1882 on the front of the top edge. The dimensions are 47 cm high, 33 cm wide, and 45 cm deep. Positioned beside a fireplace hearth, the scuttle functions as a traditional storage container for coal or logs. The combination of embossed brass panels and dark wooden turning creates a decorative accent for period interiors while remaining practical for fireside use.
