We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian coal scuttle is a specialized metal vessel designed during the nineteenth century to hold and pour coal directly into domestic fireplaces and stoves. These items were essential household equipment during the coal-heating era and were crafted in various forms, including helmet and bucket shapes.

Victorian coal scuttles were primarily constructed from sheet copper, brass, cast iron, or japanned tinplate. Hand-hammering, planishing, and copper riveting were standard methods used to join the body sections and affix metal handles.

Authentic nineteenth-century copper scuttles typically feature irregular hand-planished hammer marks, copper or brass rivets, folded metal seams, and natural surface oxidisation. Earlier examples often show evidence of historical repairs, lead soldering, or cast brass handle mounts.

An antique coal scuttle functions effectively as a fireside log or kindling container alongside a wood-burning stove or traditional open fireplace. Alternatively, these metallic containers can be repurposed as decorative planters or used for floor-level storage in hallways and living spaces.

Maintain copper and brass by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove soot and surface residue. To preserve historical patina, avoid aggressive chemical cleaners; non-abrasive metal pastes or beeswax coatings can be applied sparingly to clean metal without stripping age character.
