Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century Victorian wine funnel is formed from silver-plated metal with a bright silver finish. The piece comprises a circular bowl with a well-defined gadrooned rim, a petal-pattern pierced centre sieve, and a removable strainer bowl fitting within the collar of a tapering long spout finished with an offset mouth. The bowl is mounted with a leaf-decorated lyre-form decanter bracket, a curved spout, and ornamental floral details on the foot clip. The dimensions are 16 cm in height and 10 cm in diameter. Placed on a sideboard top in a gentleman's library or dining room, the funnel aerates and decants vintage wines. It functions as a practical table accessory for formal dinner parties, wine tastings, or home bar displays. The silver-plated surface reflects light while resting on its side support bracket next to decanters and glassware.

FAQs

Antique wine funnels were developed in the 18th and 19th centuries to strain sediment from aged wines and port while decanting fluid into glass vessels.

They were crafted primarily from sterling silver or silver plate, featuring a bowl with a perforated strainer insert, a side clip, and a curved tapering spout.

Authentic period examples exhibit makers marks or electroplate stamps, separate removable strainer components, hand-finished gadrooning or shell clips, and wear along contact points.

Place the funnel on a sideboard top or drinks trolley alongside decanters and glassware to add historical interest to modern dining settings.

Wash gently with mild liquid soap and warm water, dry thoroughly with a microfibre cloth, and polish periodically using a specialist silver cloth to control oxidisation.
