The piece includes fancy carved links, a T-bar fitting, a swivel clasp, and a shield fob medal with a rose gold overlay, engraved initials, and ornate openwork scroll detailing. The chain measures 33 cm long including the T-bar and the clasp, while the fob measures 29 mm wide and 29 mm high excluding the fixed loop, with a total weight of 38.6 g. In a home today, this gentleman's library accessory serves as a display piece in a cabinet, a decorative item on a desk, or a collector's display object. The T-bar is hallmarked for 1904 with the maker's mark for Charles Broughton, and the fob is hallmarked for Birmingham 1897 with the maker's mark for Charles Soloman.

An Albert chain is a specialised watch chain named after Prince Albert, designed to secure a pocket watch to a waistcoat or jacket buttonhole using a T-bar fitting, while allowing a fob or medal to suspend decoratively.

Antique watch chains were primarily crafted from sterling silver, gold, pinchbeck, or rolled gold, often featuring decorative carved links and contrast metal detailing on suspended fobs.

Authentic silver watch chains typically feature British hallmarks on the T-bar, swivel clasps, and individual links, along with age-consistent tarnishing and hand-finished link construction.

While traditionally worn across a waistcoat, antique Albert chains are frequently repurposed into contemporary necklaces, wrapped bracelets, or worn as decorative chain attachments on modern tailoring.

Clean silver chains gently using a dry, soft polishing cloth without immersing joined components in harsh chemicals, and store them flat in a lined jewellery box to prevent link wear and oxidisation.
