6.75inc Sterling Silver Royal Hassars Soldier Figure Statue 1969 Military

1940 - 1960
Description

A superb rare cast solid silver miniature figure / statue / trophy. It is hallmarked for London 1969 with the makers mark being that of Garrard & Co Ltd. It has been superbly modelled being cast in sterling silver in the form of what I think is a Royal Hassar standing on a plinth with a vacant sterling silver plaque. It is in super condition being free from dings splits and repairs. It measures approx. 6.75 inches (14cm) tall including the plinth and 3 inches (7.6cm) excluding it by over 0.75 inch (2.5cm) wide across the statue and weighs 170 grams (including the plinth). A superb rare, possibly commissioned, piece.

This mid-century regimental figurine depicts a Royal Hussar soldier in full military dress uniform, cast in solid sterling silver. The standing soldier wears a busby helmet with a detailed plumed top, a braided tunic, trousers, and tall boots, carrying a sword alongside a round circular base. The figure stands atop a tapered black wooden plinth fitted with a curved blank silver presentation plaque featuring visible hallmarks near the bottom edge. The wood exhibits a dark black finish that contrasts with the polished silver elements of the statuette and plaque. Measuring 17 cm tall overall, this piece serves as a distinctive decorative accessory for a gentleman's library, study desk, or mantelpiece. It integrates well within traditional or military-themed interior displays as a standalone sculptural trophy or cabinet ornament.

Regimental silver refers to objects commissioned, presented, or owned by military units to commemorate service, historical milestones, or esteemed personnel. These items frequently depict soldiers in full dress uniform, regimental insignia, or armorial crests used during formal mess dinners.

Silver military figurines are traditionally crafted using lost-wax casting or electroforming techniques to capture intricate details of uniform embellishments, facial features, and equipment. The cast silver figure is typically hallmarked and secured onto a solid wood or ebonite plinth.

Authentic British sterling silver items feature official assay marks, such as the lion passant symbol indicating fineness, alongside a makers mark, town mark, and date letter. Precise casting detail on uniform features and crisp hallmarks on the silver mount further confirm authenticity.

A silver military figurine can be integrated into modern interiors by displaying it on a dark mahogany desk, within a glass cabinet, or on a mantlepiece. Positioning the bright metal against darker wood or moody wall colours highlights the silver silhouetted profile.

Maintain silver display pieces by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cotton cloth. Remove tarnish using a specialized silver polishing cloth or silver foam, avoiding harsh abrasive cleansers that can wear down detailed surface chasing.
