This Victorian pendant necklace comprises a cruciform silver mount set with grey and black striped Montrose agate panels, suspended on a fine link silver chain with a spring ring clasp. The cross features an engraved central silver crosshatch motif, textured side borders, and polished silver edges. The cross measures 2.8 cm high by 1.8 cm wide and 0.5 cm deep, while the accompanying chain measures 46 cm in length. This piece suits formal evening wear or minimalist everyday attire, worn suspended around the neck as a personal accessory. It works well within traditional Victorian and Gothic revival jewellery collections or as a meaningful gift for a collector of antique Scottish silver pieces.

Scottish agate jewellery, often called pebble jewellery, became fashionable during the mid-19th century after Queen Victoria purchased Balmoral Castle and popularised traditional Scottish crafts and stones.

These pieces traditionally feature native Scottish agates, such as Montrose, jasper, or bloodstone, flush-set or inlaid into sterling silver mountings with hand-engraved detailing.

Authentic Victorian examples display hand-cut stones tailored precisely to fit silver collets, fine hand-engraving or crosshatch patterns on the silver work, and period-appropriate chain attachment loops or clasps.

Pendants of this style can be worn layered with plain silver chains of varying lengths or displayed individually as part of a curated antique jewellery collection.

Clean gently with a soft microfibre polishing cloth to restore the silver lustre without harsh chemical dips that could weaken stone settings or damage porous minerals.
