This classic Victorian super king bedstead pairs white painted ironwork with polished brass elements. The structure incorporates vertical spindles, a horizontal top rail of polished brass, and prominent brass ball finials on the corner posts, along with cast iron corner joints. The metal frame measures 146 cm high, 180 cm wide, and 210 cm deep, accommodating a standard 180 cm by 200 cm mattress. Suitable for use in a bedroom, this English country house style piece combines durability with traditional decorative detailing. The restoration includes a hand-finished white coat and gentle cleaning of the brass work, providing a clean surface ready for daily use in a domestic setting.

Victorian bedsteads typically combine wrought or cast iron frames with brass rails and finials, popularised in the mid-19th century as a hygienic, durable alternative to wooden frames.

These pieces are constructed using cast iron corner joints, wrought iron vertical spindles, and topped with tubular polished brass rails and spun brass finials.

Authentic period examples feature heavy cast iron joints, hand-turned brass finials, original castors, and drop-in side rail fittings often marked with foundry stamps.

Pair the crisp white painted iron frame with contemporary neutral linen bedding, layered woven throws, and understated wooden bedside tables to balance the metal structure.

Clean painted iron surfaces with a soft damp cloth, polish the brass rails using a dedicated metal polish, and ensure iron frame joints remain dry to prevent oxidisation.
