Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian cabinet bookcase is constructed from warm brown figured walnut, glass, and brass, styled for a traditional gentleman's library. The piece displays a well-figured oversailing top with a moulded edge above a shallow frieze, paired with arched glazed doors flanked by carved scroll corbels, and stands on a moulded plinth base. Internal fittings include height-adjustable shelves enclosing books and decorative objects behind the glass panes, secured by an original working lock, key, hinges, and bolts. The surfaces present a clean, waxed finish displaying the natural timber grain, with no woodworm, cracks, or splits. The bookcase measures 113 cm high, 92 cm wide, and 40 cm deep, providing compact storage suitable for a study, living room, or home office. It functions as a display cabinet and bookshelf for housing literature and ornaments while integrating cleanly into domestic interiors.

Victorian walnut furniture from the mid-to-late 19th century often features highly decorative figured or burr veneers, robust proportions, carved corbels, and glazed display sections designed for home libraries and drawing rooms.

Craftsmen typically utilised solid timber frames lined with rich figured walnut veneers, glass panes, adjustable wooden shelving, and solid brass locks and hinges.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, natural timber shrinkage on back panels, original brass hardware, and subtle imperfections in hand-blown or early plate glass.

Position the cabinet in a living space or home office as a focal storage piece, combining antique volumes with modern ceramics or curated glassware inside the glazed display section.

Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and bright sunlight to prevent timber movement or bleaching, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a clear beeswax polish annually.
