This late Victorian silver tea infuser belongs to the Victorian period and is fashioned from sterling silver and mother-of-pearl. The object comprises a circular wire mesh basket enclosed within a hinged, pierced pan-shaped bowl, connected via a hallmarked stem to a tapering, carved white mother-of-pearl handle with a rounded terminal. Clear hallmarks are visible on the silver components near the bowl and along the elongated shank, alongside a tiny hinge loop at the rim. The entire piece measures 16.3 cm high, 4.5 cm wide, and 2 cm deep. Suitable for modern home placement on a sideboard top or within a dining display, this tea accessory provides a functional tool for serving loose-leaf tea infusions. The combination of reflective silver surfaces and the iridescent white handle suits traditional English Country House interiors.

A Victorian silver tea infuser is a specialized tea accessory crafted during the late nineteenth century to hold loose leaf tea during the steeping process. These items emerged alongside formal British afternoon tea traditions to manage loose tea leaves directly within individual cups or small teapots.

Antique tea infusers were predominantly constructed from sterling silver, electroplated nickel silver, or brass. Many examples incorporate woven silver wire mesh for the steeping cage alongside turned bone, mother-of-pearl, or carved wooden handles to protect hands from heat transfer.

Authentic Chester silver features specific official British hallmark stamps, including the city mark representing three wheat sheaves and a sword. It also displays a town mark, a silver purity mark such as the lion passant for sterling silver, a date letter, and a makers mark.

A silver tea infuser can be presented on a dining room sideboard or kitchen shelving alongside glass tea caddies and traditional tableware. Placing smaller silver accessories on a mirrored or lacquer tray creates an organized decorative display.

Clean silver tea accessories using warm water and mild detergent, avoiding prolonged immersion if the item features a organic handle such as mother-of-pearl. Use a soft silver polishing cloth to remove oxidisation from metal surfaces without scratching the metal.
