Pair Regency Bronze and Marble Candlesticks

19th century
Description

This elegant PAIR OF REGENCY BRONZE AND MARBLE CANDLESTICKS date from circa 1830.

The juxtaposition of the bronze and marble works well.

The bronze has a beautiful patina and the marble is gentle and retiring.

Each Candlestick is raised on a Classical Triform Paw Foot.

The Candlesticks seem to have lead an exciting life and have a few battle scars. One corner of the marble base has been repaired and there are a few chips to the marble.

They will give many more years of pleasure and at £325 are not a King’s Ransom.

Height: 11 inches (28 cm)

Width: 4.5 inches (11.5 cm)

Express delivery within the UK is included. Please email for current discounted Overseas Shipping.

Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE REGENCY ERA:
Square brass nuts recessed into the base: assembly methods before modern hexagonal fixings.
Dark bronze patina worn down on exposed high mouldings: decades of handling.
Cast acanthus leaves and tri-form paw feet: classical styling popular around 1820.
Turned yellow marble shafts and plinths: decorative stone widely used at this time.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This pair of Regency candlesticks, dating from circa 1830, combines dark bronze and yellow marble in a classical design. Each piece features a fluted sconce, an acanthus leaf collar, a cylindrical marble column stem, and bronze paw feet resting upon a triform marble base. The dark bronze possesses a patinated finish, while the marble displays gentle yellow tones with visible chips and a repair to one corner of a base. Measuring 28 cm in height and 11.5 cm in width, these candlesticks are suited for display on a mantelpiece in a traditional interior. They provide functional illumination and decorative classical detailing for living spaces today.

FAQs

Regency style candlesticks, produced during the early 19th century, feature classical Greco-Roman motifs such as acanthus leaves, fluted columns, paw feet, and triform bases, frequently combining patinated bronze with decorative marble.

These pieces were typically crafted using heavy cast bronze or brass with dark patinated or gilded finishes, paired with turned Italian marble such as Siena marble.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-chased metal details, central threaded rod assembly through the column, age-appropriate wear to the patina, and hand-cut or hand-finished marble edges.

Position a symmetrical pair atop a fireplace mantelpiece, dining table centre, or sideboard to introduce classical structure and balanced vertical height to a contemporary interior.

Dust regularly using a soft dry cloth, avoiding acid-based cleaners on porous marble surfaces, and preserve metal patinas with a light application of microcrystalline wax.
