Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Hand-painted floral pattern in tin-glaze colours: applied freehand before the final firing.
Fine web of crazing across the glazed reverse: gradual shrinkage over many decades.
Light chipping along the rim edge: soft earthenware body typical of early delftware.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This nineteenth-century Dutch Baroque decorative plate comprises earthenware with tin glaze finished in pale green, orange, cobalt blue, brown, and yellow. Hand-painted floral and geometric motifs adorn the surface, featuring a central pinwheel design surrounded by lobed floral reserves and a scalloped border. Small chips mark the outer rim, showing signs of historic wear consistent with age and delftware fragility. The piece measures 2.5 cm high by 22.6 cm wide and 22.6 cm deep. Positioned on a sideboard top, the plate brings an English country house aesthetic to domestic interior spaces. Collectors display it flat on a surface or mounted upright within a living room, dining room, or hallway setting. The bright polychrome enamel palette integrates easily with traditional wooden furniture and neutral display shelving.

FAQs

Delft polychrome pottery refers to tin-glazed earthenware produced primarily in Delft, Netherlands, featuring multi-coloured hand-painted designs inspired by Chinese porcelain and European Baroque motifs.

Traditional Delftware is crafted from an earthenware clay body coated with an opaque white tin glaze, which provides a neutral canvas for hand-painted metal oxide pigments prior to a secondary firing.

Authentic pieces frequently exhibit visible glaze pinholes, edge chips revealing the terracotta clay beneath, and slight irregularities in the hand-painted brushwork rather than uniform transfer prints.

Display the ceramic plate on a metal stand atop a console table, mount it as part of a gallery wall, or arrange it inside a glazed cabinet alongside neutral stoneware.

Clean gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a dry soft-bristled brush, avoiding submersion in water or abrasive chemicals that can penetrate fine glaze crazing.
