An Art Deco novelty book lighter is a compact ignition device produced during the 1920s or 1930s that disguises its lighting mechanism inside a casing shaped like a miniature book.

These pieces were typically crafted from sterling silver or silver-plated metal, featuring engine-turned engraving on the exterior and steel or brass internal working parts.

Original examples generally bear official silver hallmarks or purity stamps, crisp geometric engine-turned patterns, and authentic period mechanical components.

Small silver objects can be styled on an office desk, arranged alongside books on a shelf, or placed on a brass tray within a living room scheme.

Tarnish can be removed by rubbing the exterior with a dry microfibre polishing cloth, ensuring liquid cleaners do not enter the internal ignition mechanism.
